LANA FREEMAN is an acclaimed photographer who creates photo fantasies for our craving pop culture. But all of her success is meaningless, as she obsessively searches for the "perfect moment," driven by her fear that she may never create another truly important work in her life.
When SUNNY, a waitress from the neighborhood diner, saves Lana's life Lana is reborn - and her work, including a new set of recreated forties pin-ups, shows it. But soon Lana begins to fixate on Sunny as the answer to everything-happiness, artistic creativity, even simple sensory perception, and that obsession leads them into a sexual relationship at once fulfilling and frightening. Sunny as mentor, lover and savior consumes Lana's being, bringing her more beauty and perfection than she ever thought possible, but leaving Lana dangerously close to the edge of insanity.
And when Sunny's eerie identity is uncovered, the strain is too much. Lana's survival now depends on a basic choice faced by all beings: to accept a less than perfect reality, or leap into the abyss of a "perfect" world that her muse has helped her create.
